How did I get here?

Pull up a chair and I'll tell you.

I moved to NYC from Tyler, Texas to pursue my performing career in musical theatre. I was lucky to go out on the road pretty quickly in the first national tour of Susan Stroman and Trevor Nunn's Oklahoma! as the understudy to Laurey. My career took me all over the country performing in regional theatre before I landed on the west coast for a few years. I joined the Las Vegas Company of Mamma Mia as the Sophie understudy before heading to LA with the original company of the Los Angeles production of Wicked understudying Glinda.

Although I was lucky to perform in two Broadway shows, I didn't have the easiest time vocally. I struggled with my voice while out West and was met with very little help or understanding from my peers, producers, or union. I felt a bit lost. I had trained my entire life for this career, yet I was struggling. Back in NYC, I was fortunate to find an excellent voice team who were able to get my voice back to full function. Although my performing career continued, I was inspired to begin a new journey.

I decided to embark on learning as much as I could about the voice in order to help singers sing in healthy, efficient, yet marketable ways. I wanted to keep singers from going through the frustration I went through in my performing career. I started with my Master of Music in Vocal Performance with a Musical Theatre Concentration as well as an Advanced Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy, both from NYU. I also got my Certificate in Vocology from the University of Utah and was honored with the Janet Pranschke Professional Development Scholarship presented by The New York Singing Teacher's Association where I completed the Distinguished Voice Professional Program. I also completed the Mount Sinai Vocology Mentorship at the Eugen Grabscheid Voice Center as well as observerships at the Sean Parker Institute for Voice and the NYU Voice Center. In order to learn more about manual techniques to help release tension and free the singer’s body, I completed Level I and Level II of Biodynamic Manual Voice Therapy as well as the Foundations of MyoFascial Release for Neck, Voice, and Swallowing Disorders class. I’m also a PAVA-Recognized Vocologist, having completed the exam and portfolio process focusing on interdisciplinary voice training. I have also completed the Essentials of Performing Arts Medicine Certificate through the Performing Arts Medicine Association. Finally, I received my Doctorate in Education from Teachers College, Columbia University.

As a voice researcher, I was honored to receive the prestigious Van Lawrence Fellowship in 2019, presented by The Voice Foundation and NATS. My research has been published in the Journal of Voice and Voice and Speech Review and I have presented studies at the Fall Voice Conference, PAVA Conference, Voice Foundation Symposium, and VASTA Conference. My first book, So You Want To Sing Musical Theatre, Updated and Expanded Edition, was published in 2022.

I'm a lifelong learner and I've been fortunate to focus much of my education on voice disorders, how they impact singers, and how to actively participate in the treatment, rehabilitation, and retraining of the voice. Helping singers work through an injury, surgery, or other voice-related issue is truly the most rewarding aspect of my work.

My clients are currently performing on Broadway, Off-Broadway, national tours, and regional theatre, in addition to pursuing their recording careers. They have also been nominated for Grammy, Tony, Lucille Lortel, Outer Critic Circle, Drama Desk, and Helen Hayes Awards. I also work as a vocal coach and consultant for Broadway shows (The Lightning Thief, Be More Chill) Off-Broadway shows (TEETH, The Lightning Thief), films (Encanto, One Year Off, BEAU) as well as theatre companies in the NYC area (Two River Theatre, TheatreworksUSA, iTheatrics).

In addition to the studio, I'm currently a Clinical Assistant Professor and Program Head of Musical Theater at Pace University. I formerly served on the Board of Directors for NYSTA as the Director of the Professional Development Program as well as the PAVA Board of Directors as the Communications Director, in addition to serving on several committees.

That's me in a nutshell. I'm a performer turned vocal technician who loves helping people achieve vocal success. Come sing with me sometime. It'll be fun.

Oh, I also have a husband who writes musicals and a cat that I love. I also became a momma in 2022 to a cutie baby named Parker.

I'm a proud member of AEA, NATS, NYSTA, PAVA, VASTA, MTEA, PAMA, and The Voice Foundation.
